A cat shows a person so much love and enjoys playing games. Sometimes you should provide the entertainment yourself with something like a new toy, game, or activity. Simply sitting at home playing with your cat can be enough for enjoyment. Follow along and you should have no problem with things.
Ensure that you groom your cat regularly and properly. Cats need to be combed or brushed regularly. If you do this often, their coat will stay clean. This will also reduce things like shedding and hairballs because it keeps them from having extra hair. If you groom your cat with care, both your pet and your home will look their best.
Be sure your cat gets regular checkups at the vet. A routine check-up should happen annually, and more often if necessary shots are due. Cats need to see a vet right away if they have health issues, injuries or conditions that require immediate attention.
A tagged collar is essential if you let your cat outside regularly. Cats sometimes travel a bit when outside, and a tag prevents any mishaps due to your cat being lost. Make sure at a minimum to put your pets name and your phone number on the tag.
Electrical Cords
Spritz a little bitter apple on electrical cords to protect your cats. Keep your cords covered if you feel like your cat is hellbent on chewing them. If you have loose electrical cords, you can bundle them up and stow them away in a cardboard tube (think toilet paper or paper towel rolls). Personal electronic devices should be stored when not needed to keep their cords out of reach.
Your cat can devastate your furniture with its claws. Purchase a scratching post to stop your cat from destroying your home. It is much better if your cat uses his claws on that, rather than your furniture. It may take some time and some corrections, but it can usually eliminate the problem.
It’s not easy convincing your pet that the kitchen counter is a no-cats zone. Cats like to be up high, where they can watch everything going on. You can get your cat to quit doing this if you make areas that it can climb up to. One way to keep your cats from continuously jumping on the counter is to install a cat tower near the problem counter.
Don’t leave a kitten with small kids. A child less than five years old should not be left alone with a small pet. They aren’t mature enough in order to handle the potential dangers of a kitten. As children get older, decide when they show the maturity to handle a small pet.
Cat Owners
You can tap fellow cat owners for advice if you’re having problems with your pet. You may wish to deal with it alone, but you may need advice from other cat owners. You can find online cat forums to ask questions, or you can speak with your vet.
If your cat relieves itself away from its litter box, do not spring into action with punishment. Usually, this sort of thing happens when the box isn’t being tended to properly. Punishing your cat will make it afraid of being close to you.
Acclimate your cat to its carrier. Cats never respond to punishment the way that dogs do. Instead, cats are more likely to respond to words of encouragement. Put a favorite blanket and toy in the carrier and leave it open somewhere the cat frequents. The cat will eventually get into it and feel comfy. This will make getting the cat inside easier later.
